Translation--Terminology



We shall be looking at the different aspects of translating legal texts,
such as terminology and translating conventions in their practical
relevance. What requirements (or challenges) await the translator with
regard to specialised language competence? What preparation is necessary?
How does the translator solve problems that seem insoluble? What has to be
observed in translating texts from or for regions with differing legal
systems? Where can translators find support? What sources of information
does the Internet offer?



The seminar addresses specialised translators, terminologists and all
those who are professionally active in areas governed by Anglo-American law.
We shall focus in particular on certified translations, texts from the legal
field of food technology, the translation of contracts and ?Furthermore,
the increasing possibilities the Internet offers will be discussed with
regard to terminology and searching for information.

ESP Across Cultures VOLUME 3, 2006

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for Issue no. 3 of ESP Across
Cultures, a refereed international journal published in English and Italian
by B.A. Graphis for the University of Foggia, Italy.

The journal aims to bring together scholars, practitioners, and young
researchers working in different specialized language domains and in
different disciplines with a view to developing an interdisciplinary and
cross-cultural approach to the study of English for special/specific
purposes.

Title of Post: Lecturer A/B in French



Application deadline: 3rd August 2005



The School of Languages is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in French
both to contribute to the teaching of language skills on its varied profile
of specialist, professionally oriented, languages degrees at undergraduate
and postgraduate levels and to enhance the School抯 research profile
(European Studies Research Institute Grade 5 in RAE 2001). The successful
candidate will have native or near-native competence in French, will have
completed or be nearing completion of a PhD or have produced equivalent
research output, will be returnable to RAE 2008, and will be able to
demonstrate strong teaching ability. Preference may be given to candidates
able to teach professional language skills, particularly translation into
English, and to strengthen research in the field of translation/interpreting
studies.



The post is available from 1 September 2005 or as soon as possible
thereafter.
