Introduction 

The Center for Translation and Interdisciplinary Studies (CTIS) at Tsinghua University was founded in 2000 with some research programmes and a few courses for students from various departments of the University.

CTIS is now recognized as an important research centre in the rapidly expanding field of translation and interdisciplinary studies in China. It offers an MA in Translation Studies and is now qualified to (co-) supervise doctoral research in various fields of translation studies.

The Center has organized quite a few national and international academic activities. The FIT Forth Asian Translators' Forum will be held in Tsinghua University from October 29 to 31, 2004, co-organized by Tsinghua University and the Translators' Association of China.

The staff of the Center include faculty, research fellows and visiting scholars whose research interests cover translation theories, literary translation, translation criticism, cross-cultural communication, translation teaching, machine translation and corpus-based language research.
